Left Brain Meets Right Brain – The Power of Code, Community and Culture - Dr. Angel Luis Diaz, Vice President of Cloud Architecture & Technology, IBM
Being a developer today means so much more than it did in the past.  It means tapping into the right brain and the left brain, artisan meets structured coding. It’s the wild wild west of programming these days with abundant opportunity to leverage open communities like Cloud Foundry to tap into our inner artisans and develop code at the speed of innovation.

At IBM, we are passionate about building solutions that are Open by Design which is why the new Cloud Foundry Foundation is so critically important to our path forward. Angel Diaz, IBM VP Cloud Architecture and Technology talks about the importance of today’s developer in the context of Cloud Foundry’s code, community and culture and how together we will create PaaS “fine art” rooted in deep technical eminence to address end user pain points.

The Oath of the Innovator - Christine McKinley, Mechanical Engineer, Musician, and Author
Society expects that engineers, programmers, and other technologically and scientifically gifted people are unbiased and unselfish. I'm going to make a pitch that although this trust can be uncomfortable (and sometimes misplaced, like when I'm asked to fix someone's toaster because I'm a mechanical engineer) we must do all we can to live up to the expectation that we are fact-based and uncorruptible.

Developing the Freedom to Disrupt - Andy Zitney, Senior Vice President of Infrastructure Services within Allstate Technology & Operations Allstate Insurance Company
Companies large and small, and across all industries, are simultaneously recognizing the imperative and threat of change.  They acknowledge that this change must be absolute, and enable delivery of product to the street faster and allowing continuous enhancements to product for maximum market responsiveness.  Yet the transformation of a company with a storied 90-year history like Allstate occurs on a different path than younger 5-10 year old companies.

What drives this transformation?  For starters, the change of IT from a mentality of "We are technology for the business" to "We are technology driving the business", which must carefully consider many factors, including culture and personnel, in addition to available technology.  Over the last 5 years, technologies have evolved in a way that make this transition more critical than ever: companies who are able to evolve at speed are winning, while those that are approaching change methodically are getting passed at every turn, not just by old competitors but by new entrants to the market.  Technology lowers the barriers of entry such that the ability to connect disparate services, systems, and companies to produce something viable is the only pre-requisite to filling, and dominating, a market need.  Find out more about the vision that Allstate Insurance aims to achieve, powered by Cloud Foundry.

Consumerizing Healthcare through Lean + Agile Digital Product Development - Humana
Humana's vision for the future of healthcare takes inspiration from the best consumer brands, with an objective to establish a life long relationship with their customers. As the healthcare company focused on well being is pivoting to being consumer focused, Humana is investing in meeting their customers where they and is employing digital to accomplish this.

Essential to realizing a consumer focus, Humana understands that it must deliver superior digital product experiences. To execute on this vision, in 2014 Humana opened the Humana Digital Experience Center (DEC), an incubator for the development of such ideas through Lean + Agile development methods, a diverse tech stack and the Pivotal Cloud Foundry platform. The DEC is equally a vehicle of culture change, a center who teaches others in the organization to work in these methods.

In this session, Antonio Melo and Jason McKee will share more about how they have been able to sharpen Humana's focus on technology and product development as core competencies through the operationalization of non-critical functions to hone in on business value.
