I propose to lead a simple workshop to help non-developers and beginner developers "Deploy Your First Cloud Foundry App". In the workshop, I will show how to deploy an app on Cloud Foundry. I will give the attendees the choice of Pivotal Web Services or IBM Bluemix. After deploying the web app, I will show the attendees how to add a database to their web app. We will end with a demonstration of accessing data from a big data solution.

10 common errors when pushing applications to CloudFoundry

You may experience some errors when you push your application to CloudFoundry. Some of them are easier to figure out, while others may be mysterious and harder to diagnose. This session will examine 10 common errors that may happen during application push, including their symptom, the tools and techniques to diagnose them, and the possible solutions. The session will mostly focus on Java and node.js applications, but some of the tips applies to all runtimes.

Service Discovery on Lattice with Consul

The demand for highly scalable and available applications with frequent roll-out updates has spurred adoption of microservices-based architectures. As a result, more apps than ever are being re-designed for the cloud. Lattice is an open source project for running containerized workloads on clusters, but it currently has no service discovery component.
This session will overview service discovery and configuration features provided by Consul, including automated clustering and HTTP health checks introduced in version 0.5. Attendees will learn how to:

- create a Lattice cluster on AWS for running containerized workloads
- deploy a microservices-based application packaged in a Docker container to the Lattice cluster
- set up a MariaDB service
- deploy Consul to AWS
- register MariaDB in Consul; configure and add this service to the application

CF & The 12-factor App 101: The Secret Decoder Ring for Operations

Although the value of Cloud Foundry for developers is increasingly clear, much of the value for perations is wrapped around the 12-factor app as well. Contrary to popular belief both developers and operations stand to gain from these principles.

This session will be focused on technical operations folks who are not coders by trade. The session will walk through a real production application that follows the principles outlined by 12-factor while demonstrating how these choices improve the lives of not just coders, but operations people too. We'll discuss techniques like service binding, logs-as-event-streams, disposability, NoSQL, etc and how to start using them in your environments today to simplify operations in the context of production environments.

After attending this session, you'll be able to interact close with your developer community and speak the same language.

Deploying Microservice Architectures with Cloud Foundry

Now that you have Cloud Foundry, what are you going to do with it?

This presentation will show using Spring Cloud on Cloud Foundry to quickly leverage common microservice patterns, including distributed configuration management, service discovery, intelligent routing, load balancing, and fault tolerance.

Using Spring Cloud on Cloud Foundry, developers can take advantage of the cloud native microservice architectures pioneered by those building the web at places like Twitter, LinkedIn, and Netflix. In many cases they can do so running the same code with Spring Cloud wrapping the same battle-tested open source components those companies are running in production.

Every new instance of your Docker application takes ages to download? Cloud Foundry’s new orchestration manager makes it possible to run any application on Linux and Windows, guarantees that the system is eventually consistent with what the users desired and provides enhanced support for running Docker applications.

In this presentation we will show you how to take advantage of Docker’s packaging and deployment models, to reliably scale and run your applications without depending on Docker Hub. The project goals include enabling the use of private docker images, highly available backends and effective image management. We’ll also share our experience collaborating in a cross-continent team and the variety of tools we use for adding new features.

CI That Scales With your Project

Concourse is a CI system composed of simple tools and ideas. It can express entire pipelines, integrating with arbitrary resources, or it can be used to execute one-off builds, either locally or in another CI system.

Concourse is inspired by BOSH and Diego. It is deployed and configured with BOSH, and leverages garden for containerization across platforms. I’ll cover what shortcomings of other CI systems Concourse addresses, and how the Diego team uses concourse.
